I was born in Trondheim, Norway, but spent as much time away from that city (Port of Spain, Oslo, Detroit, Porsgrunn) as growing up there. After taking piano and violin lessons, I discovered a certain predilection for the flute and went on to study music at "Østlandets Musikkonservatorium" in Oslo. The final stages of my studies were completed with Prof. Matthias Rütters at the Folkwanghochschule in Essen. I also spent a year in Paris on a French government scholarship.

During my studies, I substituted as alternating principal with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and played first flute with the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra. Following my examination in 1986, I was offered the position of principal flutist with the Ulm Philharmonic Orchestra, before leaving for a similar position with the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest in Amsterdam. I am presently on the faculty of the Wiesbaden Academy of Music and tour as a soloist, chamber musician and clinician all over Europe, Japan and the United States of America.

For a more informal (and longer) presentation, visit my portrait as flutist of the week on the FLUTE website.

With some luck, you can also hear me perform the Mozart G-major concerto on internet radio.
